 2008 Book Signing Highlights

Return Visit to Borders Lancaster on December 9,  2008

Thank you to Elizabeth Earhart for inviting us back to Borders for another book signing.  The highlight of the evening was meeting Michelle Snyder and her husband Ron.  Michelle was the first of three-generation writers to Santa!  Yes, I am now in my third generation of answering letters from children.  Meeting her on the very day that I received a letter from her grandson, Mason, was quite a coincidence.  I will always remember Mason, because Michelle wrote a letter for him to Santa before Mason was even born!

"Gifts and Greens" at the Hanover YWCA on December 7,  2008

Mrs. Gerba from Friendship Elementary in Glen Rock stopped by to meet me for the first time!  She and her Kindergarten classes have written to me for 30 years.  What a touching moment and what a delightful lady.   It was also nice visiting with my friends, Whitey Weikert and Carol Smeltzer.   Friendship is very important to me and I cherish dear friends always.

I enjoyed conversation and chicken          Mrs. Gerba, proudly showing one of my             Carol Smeltzer had a hard time

Refton Brethren in Christ Church on December 6,  2008

Many thanks to Lisa and Betty Lou and their wonderful committee of helpers for blessing little children wtih an uplifting morning of fun and learning.  The little ones asked questions about Santa Claus, but more importantly they learned about the true meaning of Christmas, shared by Pastor Dave as he read the Christmas Story.

Willow Valley on November 28, 2008

Thank you to Susan for organizing a book signing, talk and book reading at Willow Valley.  Vacationing from Long Island were new friends we met at Willow Valley.  My wife, Gloria, and her friend Vicki had fun reading "I Don't Want NO Soap" to them and also coloring with them.  Yes, Joey's sisters were a little older, but they had just as much fun as Joey, I think.   We had a delightful time learning to know more about them.  And look at little Jaimelyn posing with Grover.  What a treasure she is!  We met lots of new "little" friends and some "young at heart" older friends, too.   It was an intimate setting and an evening to remember.  Thank you to all the vacationers who spent some time with us.

Thank you to Leslie and Angie for arranging a book signing at the York Art Institute.  We enjoyed meeting some new friends and you will see them below.  It was such a cozy reception and we felt right at home with our mugs of hot chocolate and cookies.  That was really a hit with us!

Guthrie Memorial Library in Hanover on November 15, 2008

Thank you to the Friends of the Library for having us be part of the Book Fair at the YMCA in Hanover.  As always, we met some terrific people.  One of the highlights was meeting a woman who brought along her Santa letters from when she was a little girl!

Tilden Elementary Center on November 7, 2008

Thank you to Mr. Paul Havanko for allowing us to be "kids" again by spending time with the students at Tilden Elementary Center in Hamburg, PA.  Also a special thank you to Mika Neff for helping to arrange the event.  Oh, did we love their questions!  "Does Santa levitate?"   Yes, that was one of the questions.  And so many of them wondered what it was like to be an author.  Of course, we enjoyed telling them all about Santa, Mrs. Santa, Rudolph and the Brownies.  They heard some of the inside stories about the North Pole that they did not know  before!

Mr. Havanko introducing Mr. Gouker to students.                   Teachers can be proud of these very attentive students.

Mika, Mr. Gouker, Cole, Miss Kramer, Kyra and Mr. Havanko       More well-behaved students.  We were so impressed with all
Which three of these people are in "My Santamental Journey?"              K through 5 children.  Thanks for a great day!

Hempfield High School on November 5, 2008

Thank you to Pam Felegi for gathering some very special students together to hear about my books.  And there is a possibility they will become Brownies and help by taking dictation of some Santa letters this year.   We may even send them to the North Pole for some training about how I answer those wonderful letters from children.  Santa and Mrs. Santa are preparing for a very busy season of Santa letters this year!

A very intimate conversation with Matt and Katrina                Grover and Pam Felegi
